Interstate 81 near Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, was the site of a fatal accident on August 9.
At approximately 8:50 pm, an RV lost a tire, causing it to cross the highway median and collide with a tractor-trailer traveling in the opposite direction. Coincidentally, the RV was towing a trailer and the tractor-trailer was towing a double trailer.
The head-on impact resulted in the death of four passengers from the RV, identified as Donald, Kimberly, Miranda, and Dane Molander of Middletown, Pennsylvania. The tractor-trailer’s driver, James Shade from Martinsburg, West Virginia, also lost his life in the collision.
All five individuals were confirmed dead at the scene. The accident additionally resulted in the death of a dog. The incident is under investigation by local law enforcement agencies to ascertain the events leading up to the collision.
The part of the interstate near the accident was closed for 10 hours.
