A 48-year-old California man is facing charges for murdering his wife, allegedly by poisoning her with fentanyl.
On January 12, 2023, Glennis Smith called police saying that his wife, Jennifer Smith-Floyd, 49, was unconscious. The couple had been married for five years but had chosen to live separately in the months preceding this incident.
Emergency services reached the scene, Smith’s main residence, but couldn’t revive Smith-Floyd.
Forensic analysis revealed the presence of a lethal amount of fentanyl in her body. Authorities suspect that Smith might have given her the substance on two occasions. The day before, Smith-Floyd was hospitalized, and was told that her symptoms could be due to a food allergy, as reported by Sgt. Jason Jimenez of the Elk Grove Police Department.
Smith is also believed to have set their travel trailer ablaze, possibly aiming for insurance fraud.
Smith’s background reveals a stint in prison for a spousal rape case involving another partner.
Jennifer Smith-Floyd was commemorated by her family as a loving mother of two and a fervent advocate for women’s rights.
