A 32-year-old security guard at Dragonfly Hollywood nightclub in Los Angeles was beaten to death by a large group of people suspected to be gang members.
The victim, Daniel Sandifer, from Compton, California, was attacked near Santa Monica Boulevard and Wilcox Avenue in the early hours of Sunday, July 30.
According to eyewitnesses, a verbal disagreement quickly spiraled into a violent assault, with the group attacking and trampling Sandifer and stomping on his head. When police arrived, they found Sandifer unconscious on the street. Despite attempts to save him, he died from his injuries at the hospital. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is now on the hunt for an estimated 11 suspects thought to be involved in the assault.
The motive behind the attack is currently unknown. Investigations are underway to determine if the suspects had any prior dealings with Sandifer or the nightclub. In response to the incident, Dragonfly Hollywood, a popular spot known for its hip-hop scene and celebrity patrons, has temporarily closed its doors and postponed its upcoming event.
The LAPD is calling on witnesses, especially those who might have captured the incident on their cell phones, to provide any information they may have. Detective Samuel Marullo highlighted the importance of any potential video evidence in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Sandifer’s identity was confirmed by his cousin, Evette Sandifer, who described him as a hardworking individual who deeply cared for his two daughters and was the primary caregiver for their grandmother, who is in hospice care.
