A man from New Jersey shot his ex-wife and dog and later turned the gun on himself.
On Saturday, around 5 am, Kimberly Hoffman, 49, called 911 to report a break-in at her apartment. When officers arrived and entered the house, they were too late. They discovered Hoffman’s lifeless body with a gunshot wound to her face. Her dog was also found dead with multiple bullet wounds.
Her ex-husband, 52-year-old Carl Schulz Jr., was found alive but gravely injured. He passed away at a hospital in Atlantic City.
Police investigations confirmed that Carl Schulz Jr. was responsible for the incident. He shot Hoffman and her dog before taking his own life.
The motive behind the murder-suicide remains unclear.
Hoffman, a mother of two, was Director of Admissions at Seacrest Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, a nursing home. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support her bereaved children. The community has rallied together, raising over $52,000 to aid them.
