On Saturday morning, August 5, a prominent 40-year-old cancer doctor in New York City was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at her Westchester, New York home.
Dr. Krystal Cascetta, associated with Mount Sinai Hospital, and her four-month-old baby were found deceased in the residence. Authorities have determined the cause was a murder-suicide. Dr. Cascetta’s parents were in the home at the time and heard one shot, which they took to be something falling. When they went upstairs to investigate they heard another shot from the locked bedroom. They broke through the door and found their daughter and granddaughter.
The Somers residence, valued at around $1 million, was where Dr. Krystal Cascetta resided with her husband, Tim Talty, 37. The two had been married since 2019 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
Dr. Cascetta, a Hematology-Oncology specialist, was known for her patient care and research on breast cancer. Her husband operates Talty Bars, a protein bar venture, which benefited from Dr. Cascetta’s medical expertise.
Previous emergency visits to the home were mentioned by a neighbor.
The Investigation is ongoing but postpartum depression, which occurs in up to 20% of new mothers, may be the reason behind this tragic story.
