Former President Barack Obama issued a message of caution to President Biden, urging him not to underestimate the political power of former President Donald Trump.
The two leaders discussed this during their regular lunch meeting at the White House on June 27. Apart from political matters, they also conversed about personal subjects, including Biden’s vacation plans, which were later rescheduled due to scorching temperatures in Palm Springs.
A recent poll suggests that both Biden and Trump are at 43 percent in terms of support for a 2024 presidential bid. Notably, Trump has a significant lead in the Republican primary, outpacing Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis by 37 points.
Obama clarified that his warning was not a comment on Biden’s political expertise but a recognition of Trump’s influence within the Republican party. Following their meeting, Obama participated in a campaign event for Biden, underscoring the role of grassroots contributions.
Obama’s upcoming activities include a fundraiser for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee in Martha’s Vineyard. He also plans to assist Biden’s fundraising campaigns in the subsequent months.
The Biden campaign expressed appreciation for Obama’s steadfast support, anticipating a joint campaign effort in the 2024 elections. Obama’s insights highlight the need for awareness in the evolving political environment.
