On August 13, a small aircraft met with a fatal accident after striking a power line, leading to its crash into Lake Hickory, North Carolina. The incident resulted in two casualties.

The victims, Jeffrey Jay Cooley, 63, and Brian Miller, 49, were on board when the crash occurred around 11:30 am.

The collision led to a power outage, as confirmed by Sarah Killian, a City of Hickory spokesperson. Over 10,000 customers faced power disruptions, but Duke Energy managed to restore it by early Sunday afternoon.

The plane, a Scoda Aeronautica Super Petrel, had taken off from Hickory Regional Airport shortly before the accident.

In light of the crash, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have initiated a joint investigation to determine the cause.

The crash at Lake Hickory, a 4,000-acre recreational area, saw a combined response from agencies across Alexander, Caldwell, and Catawba counties.
