Choctaw, Oklahoma authorities have taken a 15-year-old boy into custody following the death of 16-year-old Cordae Carter at a high school football game on Friday, August 25. The incident, which unfolded in the third quarter, prompted immediate reactions from players and onlookers as they sought cover.

The arrest was executed early on Wednesday, August 30, in the Oklahoma City suburb of Spencer. Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III confirmed the arrest. It was executed without complications. The young suspect’s name remains confidential due to his minor status, and the Choctaw police are now investigating the incident.

Concurrently, another element of this investigation is focusing on a shot that was fired by an off-duty police officer. Two officers, one from Del City, were stationed at the game for security reasons. The probe aims to uncover the circumstances that led to this officer’s decision to fire his weapon.

In the ensuing chaos, a 15-year-old girl incurred a leg injury, while a 42-year-old man now is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest. Sheriff Johnson confirmed that the man’s injury resulted from the shot fired by the off-duty officer from Del City. In light of these events, both officers who were off-duty at the time have been assigned to paid administrative leave until the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

The motive behind the initial shooting is still under investigation. Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall did acknowledge an earlier altercation between two males before the tragic event. The details surrounding this disagreement and those involved remain under wraps. It’s currently uncertain whether the 16-year-old victim or the injured 42-year-old man were involved in the argument that triggered the shooting.

A fundraising campaign has been set up following Cordae Carter’s death, by Daniel Chapin, the organizer of The Uvalde Foundation for Kids.  Chapin said that all donations will assist Carter’s family with his funeral and burial.
