An Indiana woman lost her life in an accident on Monday morning, September 11, when a wheel dislodged from a passing pickup truck and collided with her vehicle’s windshield, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred on the westbound lane of I-70 near Indianapolis at around 7:45 am. Indiana State Police reported that a left rear wheel detached from a Nissan pickup truck traveling in the eastbound lane.
The rogue wheel crossed the median, impacting the woman’s red SUV, resulting in the shattering of the windshield and causing significant damage to the front portion of the roof.
Subsequently, she struggled to control her vehicle, veering off the highway and crashing through a fence. Her SUV eventually came to a stop on its side in a yard, approximately 25 feet away from a nearby house.
A vigilant witness called 911, alerting emergency services. Upon arrival, paramedics discovered the woman in her “severely damaged car.” Despite their efforts to administer medical aid, she was declared dead at the scene.
Law enforcement authorities have identified and located the driver of the Nissan responsible for the loose wheel.
The victim’s identity has not been disclosed. The accident remains an active subject of inquiry, as indicated by police.
