In an interview in the New York Times this week, Brooke Shields told a story about an interaction with former President Donald Trump.
During the 2023 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Shields spoke candidly about an unexpected phone call she received from Donald Trump in the late 1990s.
The encounter was shared during an interview as she promoted her new cabaret act, “Fame Is Weird.”
Shields recounted that while she was working on a film in the late ’90s, she received a call from Trump. He directly suggested that they should date, pointing out that she was America’s darling and he was the world’s wealthiest individual, believing the public would be enamored by their pairing.
Caught off-guard by the proposition, Shields, who had previously starred in “Suddenly Susan” and “Pretty Baby,” responded that she had a boyfriend and did not think it would be appropriate to date him.
In his signature fashion, Trump attempted to have the final word by telling Shields that she was making a big mistake, but Shields still declined the request.
This wasn’t the first time the public heard about this encounter. In 2017, Brooke Shields shared the story on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.” Shields recalled that the call must have been placed during Trump’s 1999 divorce.
Despite Trump’s being newly divorced, Shields maintained her stance during the call by reminding Trump about her boyfriend, further highlighting that she was not interested in pursuing a relationship with him.
Following her split from tennis player Andre Agassi, Brooke Shields married director Chris Henchy in 2001. The couple has two daughters, Rowan, 20, and Grier, 17. Shields has consistently maintained her story’s authenticity and has shared it on multiple platforms and interviews.
