A shooting occurred on September 12 at St. Helena College & Career Academy situated in Greensburg, Louisiana, leading to one death and two injuries. Verification of the incident came from the St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office. They stated that the two injured individuals were immediately transported to a medical facility.
Following the incident, authorities detained a 14-year-old student believed to be linked to the shooting. The reason for the shooting, along with the identity of the alleged perpetrator, remains undisclosed by officials.
While the names of the victims have yet to be made public, it’s known that the incident took place at approximately 3:30 pm, during the school’s routine dismissal time. After the incident, an increased number of police officers were noticeable within the school vicinity.
The educational institution, St. Helena College & Career Academy, is roughly a 60-minute drive from Baton Rouge.
Following the tragic event, Louisiana’s Governor John Bel Edwards expressed his sympathies. He also took the opportunity to urge lawmakers to address and reduce gun-related violence.
