On September 17, 2023, an incident occurred at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts during a football game. A 53-year-old man from Newmarket, New Hampshire, Dale Mooney, lost his life following a dispute with a Miami Dolphins fan.

Mooney was there to support the New England Patriots. The disagreement took place in the fourth quarter and quickly became physical. Witnesses reported that Mooney was hit by the opposing fan, leading to his loss of consciousness.

Despite immediate medical attention by first responders for about 10 minutes, Mooney didn’t regain consciousness. He was later transported to a local hospital where he was declared deceased.

Massachusetts State Police, along with the Norfolk District Attorney’s office, have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. An independent witness has provided an account that aligns with statements from Mooney’s wife, confirming that Mooney did not act aggressively or throw punches.

While the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, an autopsy has been planned. At this time, no charges have been filed relating to the event.

Dale Mooney was known as a loyal Patriots supporter, holding season tickets for three decades.
