On September 15, 2023, in the village of Czerniki, northern Poland, local authorities made a chilling discovery. In a residence that the locals referred to as the “house of horrors,” the decomposed remains of three newborn infants were located. The dwelling was inhabited by Piotr Gierasik, 54, and his 20-year-old daughter, Paulina Gierasik, who are now under suspicion for an ongoing incestuous liaison and murder.
Upon conducting a thorough search, the police found the infants, encased in black plastic. One of these infants is believed to have been deceased for approximately three weeks. They were found in a pit, which was accessible via a dim and precarious passageway. Preliminary reports indicate that Piotr might be the father of all three children, with two being delivered by Paulina and the third by one of her siblings.
There have been past observations from the local populace about the close and unusual relationship between the father and daughter. Some of Paulina’s fellow employees from a cake shop in a neighboring town commented on the unusual dynamics. They mentioned her father’s peculiar action of shaving her head to deter male attention and described her reverence towards him as if he held a divine status.
Suspicion grew when her colleagues noted Paulina’s abrupt return from a holiday, appearing emaciated. There were indicators pointing towards her having been pregnant, including using belts to mask her physique. However, upon being asked about these observations, she dismissed them. The consistent involvement of her father in her daily commute and her reference to him by his given name intensified these suspicions. Some co-workers alleged seeing messages on her phone that alluded to a still-living child.
Katarzyna Matyszczak, who manages the store where Paulina was employed, stated the ongoing speculations about the family. Paulina had, however, denied any claims of pregnancy when confronted.
In contrast, some locals voiced their astonishment after the arrest, recalling Piotr’s outward image of a diligent father. A local was quoted saying, “He seemed like anyone else, engaging in activities like forest outings with his children.”
The father-daughter pair is currently awaiting trial for charges that encompass murder and incest. A conviction could lead to a life sentence. As of now, the investigation is pending, with autopsy reports expected to shed light on the exact circumstances of the infants’ deaths.
