A 31-year-old man believed to have caused the deaths of a suburban Chicago family died from a gunshot injury following a car crash during a police pursuit on September 20.
The incident took place in Catoosa, Oklahoma, approximately 650 miles from where the family was found dead.
The pursuit concluded when law enforcement officers discovered Nathaniel Huey, Jr. and a yet-to-be-named woman with gunshot injuries inside the car. Huey did not survive his injuries. Meanwhile, the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, her condition listed as critical, as per the Romeoville, Illinois, Police Department. Both individuals had been designated as persons of interest once the Romeoville police uncovered the dead bodies of Alberto Rolon, 38, Zoraida Bartolomei, 32, and their children, Adriel, 10, and Diego, 7.
The family, as well as their three pets, were found dead with gunshot wounds in their residence. In a press briefing, Romeoville Deputy Chief Chris Burne stated that the event wasn’t an arbitrary act of violence. The specific reasons behind the killings aren’t yet clear, but there was significant physical proof present at the crime site.
Worries began when a family member didn’t arrive for their Sunday 6 am work shift and didn’t respond to communications. This led to a welfare check later in the evening. Following this, Romeoville police issued a statewide alert containing details of Huey, the unknown woman, and their car. The woman accompanying Huey was also reported missing by her family on the preceding Tuesday.
The sequence of events reached its climax on Wednesday. Catoosa police identified Huey’s car based on its license plate and proceeded with a traffic halt. Huey attempted to elude them, which resulted in the vehicle accident. Officers at the scene mentioned hearing potential gunshots, but it’s unclear who the shooter might have been. At this point, no additional individuals are suspected to be linked to this tragedy.
The deceased family had recently settled in their Romeoville residence this past April. Both young children attended RC Hill Elementary School.
An online fundraising page described the family as diligent individuals who had recently purchased their first residence.
