A 17-month-old toddler was found dead in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, following a suspected animal attack.
The tragic event took place on Monday, September 18. The toddler, Da’Angelo Manning, and a four-year-old child strayed from their Winkler Road residence, located close to Haynesville, Louisiana. By 10 a.m., both were reported missing.
Upon their arrival, police found the older child with minor injuries. The child was promptly provided care by Pafford Emergency Medical Services and was subsequently handed over to a responsible guardian.
Meanwhile, Da’Angelo Manning was found at a site to the north of Kendrick Springs Road. This location had recently undergone tree clearing.
Preliminary statements from law enforcement suggest that Manning’s unfortunate death was likely caused by an animal. Yet, the specific animal responsible remains unidentified. The inquiry is ongoing. Local media have indicated that the toddler’s body has been sent for an autopsy, which will provide a clearer picture regarding the cause of death.
Claiborne Parish Sheriff Sam Dowies thanked multiple entities that came forward to assist, notably the Louisiana State Police, David Wade Correctional Center, local volunteer firemen, and the Pafford Ambulance Service.
In response to the tragedy, Evelyn Ayala, related to the Manning family, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral costs. The fundraiser has already accumulated over $2,000 of its $10,000 target.
