On Sunday, October 15, in Martin County, Minnesota, a four-year-old child discovered and accidentally fired a loaded firearm, wounding their two-year-old sibling. The children were in the backseat of a vehicle during the incident.

The incident prompted the immediate response of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, whose deputies intercepted the vehicle near the 1800 block of 120th Street. They administered first aid to the injured child before an air ambulance transported the toddler to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for further medical care.

The accidental discharge occurred when the older child found the weapon in the vehicle’s backseat, as confirmed by multiple reports. Authorities are currently investigating how the firearm ended up in the car, with the main focus on the well-being of the two-year-old.

The question of potential criminal charges arising from this incident remains uncertain. Should charges be pursued, the Martin County Attorney’s Office will be responsible for handling the case.
