In the early hours of Tuesday, September 26, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, a tragic event unfolded as a mother and her dog were found dead, victims of gunshot wounds. The alleged perpetrator, a 19-year-old named Johnathan Kliebert, turned himself in to authorities soon after the incident.
Kliebert made a distressing call to 911 around 1:45 a.m., admitting to the shooting of his mother, Ashley Kliebert, at the residence they shared. When the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, they found Ashley, a 46-year-old woman, with fatal gunshot injuries to her head. In close proximity was the family’s pet dog, who also had been fatally shot.
Rather than fleeing the scene, Kliebert chose to await the authorities at a nearby hospital parking lot, displaying his intention to surrender. This decision to confront his actions was in line with his earlier call to emergency services, when he confessed to his crimes.
During interrogations, Kliebert provided a chilling account of the events that led up to the shootings. He narrated how he had woken up feeling an intense rage, an emotion so overpowering that it drove him to grab a shotgun and shoot his sleeping mother and their dog.
Following the investigations and based on the evidence collected, Kliebert now faces several charges, including murder, armed robbery, and animal cruelty. His actions have left the community in shock, leading to many seeking answers as to what could drive a young man to commit such a violent act against his own mother and a defenseless pet.
