On October 10, a 15-year-old student from Windsor High School in Connecticut experienced a grave medical emergency during a football practice session

The student, Elijah-Jay Mariano Rivera, collapsed during a non-contact drill after the team’s bye-week. Coaches at the scene quickly administered CPR, and emergency medical technicians arrived swiftly. Despite these efforts, Rivera did not recover.

He was transported to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford after the incident. The staff at the medical center declared him dead shortly after he was brought in. His death was confirmed by the school’s superintendent who offered sympathies to Rivera’s family and friends.

Elijah-Jay’s teammates remembered him fondly. He was known for his positive demeanor, both as a dedicated football player and as an active member of the community. His departure is a significant loss to many who knew him.

The cause of Rivera’s untimely death is still undetermined. An inquiry into the details of the incident is ongoing. As a mark of respect for Rivera, the school postponed the PSAT tests which were to take place that day.
