On September 10, 2023, the Los Angeles community was shaken by the news that a 32-year-old model named Nichole Coats was discovered dead in her downtown apartment. 

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later stated that Coats’ death was due to cocaine and ethanol toxicity and labeled it as an accidental overdose. The investigation into her death is still ongoing.

The discovery of her body was made by her own father and aunt. They became concerned when they hadn’t received any communication from her for several days. The manner in which her body was found raised several questions. As described by her aunt, the body had one leg elevated in a pose similar to a kick. Moreover, her bed was stained with blood, leading the family to think that she might have been murdered.

Adding to the community’s concern, another model named Maleesa Mooney, aged 31, was found dead in her downtown Los Angeles apartment a mere two days after Coats’ body was discovered. Due to signs suggesting she was a victim of violence, Mooney’s death is being treated as a homicide. The proximity of the two deaths led to rumors of a potential link between the two cases.

However, the Los Angeles Police Department has refuted such connections. Backed by the findings of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, the LAPD asserts that the two cases are unrelated. The medical examiner’s conclusion was that Coats’ death was an accidental result of mixing cocaine and ethanol.

Combining these two substances, cocaine and alcohol, is a dangerous cocktail. When consumed together, they can lead to cardiotoxic effects and significantly increase the chances of a fatal overdose. Organizations like the American Addiction Centers have highlighted the lethal nature of this combination.

Yet, Coats’ family struggles to accept the official report. The unusual circumstances surrounding her death, especially the blood found and the odd positioning of her body, have fed their skepticism. They are convinced there’s more to the story than what has been revealed.

Regarding Mooney’s case, the cause of her death has been ruled as homicidal violence. However, no suspects have been apprehended by the police, and her case too remains an enigma.
