On Saturday, September 30, a fatal boat crash occurred along the Fox River in McHenry, Illinois.
A motorboat, moving at a rapid pace and weaving back and forth, suddenly veered away from the waterway. This change in direction led the boat directly into a house’s vicinity. This collision was so intense that it split the boat into two.
Footage from surveillance systems captured the boat’s swift approach to the shore. The boat did not stop upon hitting land but moved for another 73 feet until it reached and hit the house. Fortunately, the house sustained only minor damage.
Inside the boat were Julie and Timothy Mertins. Julie, 61, found under the boat, experienced acute injuries and was pronounced dead on site. Her husband, Timothy, 62 years old, was found critically injured. He was taken to a hospital but did not make it through surgery. Blunt force trauma was stated as the cause of death for both individuals.
The couple was set to celebrate their 33rd year of marriage in the upcoming month. They were known to enjoy their time together, frequently participating in shared activities.
The specific cause of the boat’s erratic behavior is still being looked into. While eyewitnesses have commented on the boat’s high velocity, the authorities are anticipating the toxicology report’s results to shed more light on the situation.
