Recently, Patrick J. Adams, best recognized for his portrayal of Mike Ross in the TV show “Suits”, uploaded some old photos from his time on the show. Among these photos were those with Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. However, Adams soon took these down and apologized.
Adams originally posted the photos as a nostalgic gesture about their time filming “Suits”. Yet, he soon perceived that this might not have been the best moment to share such memories. His posts garnered criticism, especially from the Screen Actors Guild union (SAG-AFTRA). The union was on strike, and sharing such pictures was seen as promoting the show.
Given the strike, SAG-AFTRA members were advised against any promotional activity for striking shows. Unintentionally, Adams’ posts went against this advice.
Also, there was a question about whether the Duchess had given permission for these images to be shared. Some sources pointed out that Adams might not have obtained Meghan’s consent. Given the challenges she’s been facing in the media, this move could be seen as infringing on her privacy. Acknowledging his mistake, Adams emphasized their longstanding relationship, admitting that he should have acted differently.
While there’s speculation that Meghan might have had a say in removing the photos over concerns for her image, there’s been no confirmation or denial from her team. The primary emphasis remains on the Duchess’s privacy and ensuring union rules are upheld during the strike. In his formal apology, Adams underlined his commitment to the union’s cause and clarified that his posts were not meant as promotions.
