2 Dead in Memphis Restaurant Shooting

A fatal shooting outside a well-known restaurant in Whitehaven, Memphis, Tennessee, has left two men dead and many in the community in shock. The incident occurred in the parking lot of Tha Table Restaurant.

On Sunday, October 29, 2023, 31-year-old Tedarius Day was preparing to take his three children to a nearby park. He was seated in his car with them when gunfire erupted outside Tha Table. Day was fatally injured during the altercation in front of his kids. At the same time, the owner of the restaurant, Alfonzo Turner, was also caught in the gunfire. Turner was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The circumstances of the shooting remain unknown. Authorities suggest that the altercation involved someone from inside the restaurant and two men outside attempting to steal a car.  

Eyewitness accounts described a chaotic situation. Three cars pulled into the restaurant’s parking lot at high speed. Two men emerged from the first car, followed shortly by the sound of gunshots. The motive behind the shooting and the events leading up to it have yet to be established by authorities.

Following the incident, the Memphis Police Department acted swiftly in their investigations. Their efforts resulted in the arrest of two men in connection with the shooting. The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Dario’n Banks and 22-year-old Michael Shaffer, are currently in custody. Details about their alleged involvement, charges, and whether they have retained legal representation have not been disclosed.

The sudden death of Day, who was trying to spend a day with his children, coupled with the loss of Turner, a popular restaurateur in Memphis, has left many grappling with the senseless nature of the violence. Both men leave behind grieving families.

The Memphis Police Department continues a thorough investigation of the case. They urge anyone with information about the incident or events leading up to it to come forward.
