A four-year-old boy was fatally attacked by his family’s dog on Halloween night in north Spokane, Washington. 

According to the Spokane Police Department, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, inside a home located near the intersection of N. Nevada St. and E. Walton Ave.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the young boy, who had sustained severe injuries from the dog. Immediate first aid was administered by both the police and emergency service crews. Despite their combined efforts, the boy was pronounced dead.

Details emerged that the boy’s grandfather had initially sought help from a neighboring house. The neighbor, identified as a nurse, quickly rushed over to provide aid. The child was in his grandmother’s arms, surrounded by blood, as she tried to stop the bleeding. The neighbors, Roger Hammers and his girlfriend, contacted 911 for further assistance. However, the young boy succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

The breed of the dog, identified as a pit bull mix, has been linked to the attack. As family members tried valiantly to shield the boy from the dog, they grievously injured the animal. The dog’s injuries were so severe that it was euthanized on site by the police.

The police emphasized that this incident was not linked to Halloween activities like trick-or-treating. The identity of the child and further details about the family have not been publicly disclosed by the authorities.
