In a recent Facebook statement dated November 21, 2023, law enforcement officials confirmed the death of four teenagers during a camping trip in Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, United Kingdom.
Wilf Fitchett, also reported as Wilf Henderson, Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, and Hugo Morris, who were between 16 and 18 years old, were from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. They were last in contact on the morning of Sunday, November 19, 2023, and their parents reported them missing on Monday. The group was found inside an overturned vehicle that had left the roadway and was in a ditch.
North Wales Police Superintendent Owain Llewellyn stated that the event seems to have been accidental. Locals said that roads in the area are narrow and steep and the weather at the time was wet and windy.
The teenagers were discovered after a report on Tuesday morning from a bystander who noticed a Ford Fiesta upside down and partially submerged in water near Porthmadog, Wales. This area, renowned for its scenic charm, is frequented by hikers and campers, and includes Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in the U.K. outside the Scottish Highlands.
The victims, all students of Shrewsbury College, were on a camping trip in Eryri, also known as Snowdonia.
The college, in a public statement, expressed gratitude towards the emergency services and local mountain rescue teams for their response and mentioned support initiatives for students and staff impacted by the event.
Police closed the road where the accident took place for an extensive investigation.
