In a deeply disheartening incident, 15-year-old Janiya Carr’s life was brought to a sudden and violent end in Indianapolis, Indiana. An employee at her apartment complex has been implicated and charged in her murder.
Janiya was reported missing as a runaway by her mother, Demetria Boston, on October 30, 2023. Her body was discovered two days later in an isolated woodland behind her residence, the Carriage House East Apartments. The young girl had sustained lethal gunshot injuries to her cheek and head.
Suspicion fell upon Tevis Walker, aged 34, employed as a maintenance worker at the apartment complex. Walker was linked to the incident via crucial surveillance footage. Cameras recorded Janiya entering Walker’s vehicle in the early hours of October 28, 2023. The same vehicle was spotted within an hour, motion perceived inside it despite the switched-off lights, in the zone where Janiya’s body was subsequently unearthed.
Initially, Walker informed police officers that he had merely transported Janiya for a meeting with a supposed tablet seller who didn’t show up. Despite claiming he escorted her back to the apartments, the incriminating footage and Janiya’s tragic fate contradict this account.
During investigations, it came to light that Walker held outstanding warrants for his arrest in Alabama and Georgia, which his employer failed to identify during a background check process. This oversight has drawn severe public criticism, with Janiya’s grieving mother expressing her anguish.
Based on the conclusive autopsy reports that identified gunshot injuries and corresponding head trauma as the cause of Janiya’s death, and the damning surveillance footage, Walker was taken into custody and slapped with a murder charge.
