A 32-year-old mother of two was fatally shot in the chest while using an ATM outside a Chase bank in Worth, Illinois, authorities confirmed

The incident, which occurred on November 5, 2023, has led to first-degree murder charges against two people from Harvey, Illinois.

Tamara Jailynn Johnson, 22, and Jason Jerry Joseph Johnson, 23, were identified and charged following the shooting of Jonnie Angel Klein. The two suspects are believed to be involved in a series of armed robberies across the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana. Police investigations connected them to the recent crimes through evidence that included firearms, one of which was used in the fatal shooting of Klein.

Klein, described by family members as a devoted mother and caretaker, was engaged in a routine financial transaction at the drive-thru ATM when the attempted armed robbery turned deadly. According to the family, she was withdrawing money to pay her bills.

The investigation revealed that the suspects were linked to several similar incidents, suggesting a pattern of criminal behavior.

The loss of Klein has resonated in the community. She was known as a hardworking person who juggled multiple jobs to provide for her family, which included a 10-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son. Her role as a caretaker for her mother,  who has been battling cancer, added to her responsibilities, which she managed alongside her work.

This case has drawn significant attention to the issues of armed robbery and gun violence in the area. The local police are taking measures to increase surveillance and security in and around ATM locations. They urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, especially in the wake of this incident and the ongoing investigation into the connected robberies.
