A Winter Springs, Florida, mother of four was found dead in a storage unit in Apopka.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a foul odor coming from a storage unit. Upon investigating on November 18, 2023, police found the remains of 37-year-old Shakeira Yvonne Rucker, with gunshot wounds to her neck.
Rucker was last seen on November 11, 2023, leaving her Winter Springs home with her estranged husband, 51-year-old Cory Hill. Her disappearance prompted a frantic search by her family and local authorities.
Hill has emerged as the primary suspect. He was arrested for an unrelated incident, shooting at his ex-girlfriend and her family on November 12, a day after Rucker’s disappearance. He’s being held in jail without bail.
Sheriff John Mina, at a press conference, shared that Cory Hill shot Rucker and left the body in the storage unit which is registered to Hill. Sheriff Mina anticipates that the suspect will eventually be charged with the Rucker’s murder.
Hill’s criminal history includes a previous conviction for second-degree murder in 1992 in Virginia, where he served 20 years in prison.
Rucker’s disappearance and death have deeply affected her family and community. A vigil was held in her memory, and a GoFundMe has been established to support her children, including an 18-year-old son who now cares for his three siblings.
The investigation into Rucker’s death is ongoing. The sheriff’s office has not yet released information about the motive or any circumstances and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
