Peter Spellos, a versatile actor known for his roles in the TV series “American Dreams” and the animated series “Transformers: Robots in Disguise,” passed away at the age of 69.
James Spellos, Peter’s younger brother, announced his death from pancreatic cancer on November 19, 2023, at the Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Born in Queens, New York, Peter Spellos had an extensive career with over 150 acting credits, including prominent roles in “American Dreams” as Gus and the voice of Sky-Byte in “Transformers: Robots in Disguise.” He also lent his voice to “Eagle Riders,” alongside Bryan Cranston and Mona Marshall.
His career spanned various media, with roles in “ER,” “NYPD Blue,” “Yes Man,” and a memorable performance in “Men in Black II” as Motorman. A committed theater artist and educator, Spellos founded the New Mercury Theatre Company and taught at The Artists Gym.
In his final days, he was comforted by the presence of family, friends, and messages from fans, as confirmed by Jennifer Smith, his student and holder of his power of attorney.
Fred Olen Ray, a friend and collaborator, paid tribute to Spellos’ kindness and career on social media. Respecting Spellos’ wishes, no religious service will be held, and he will be cremated. An online memorial is planned to celebrate his life and contributions. His brother humorously noted Peter’s wish for a Viking ship send-off.
