A 46-year-old man from Ocean City, New Jersey, has been charged with the murder of his 74-year-old mother. Jeffrey Surgent called 911 on the afternoon of December 8, 2023, confessing to his bipolar disorder and the murder of Alexandria Surgent.

Upon arrival at the 600 block of Sixth Street apartment complex, officers encountered a horrifying scene. They found Jeffrey Surgent unclothed in the hallway, lying on his mother’s beheaded body.

An affidavit revealed Surgent’s state of extreme distress, covered in blood and repeatedly expressing remorse for his actions. He was also heard singing “Jesus Loves Me.”

Investigation reports include footage from the Housing Authority’s surveillance system. The footage showed Surgent briefly appearing from his apartment as he pushed his mother’s head into the hallway, followed by dragging her body out and lying on top of it until police intervention.

After being taken to a medical facility under police guard, Jeffrey Surgent was transferred to Cape May County Correctional Facility. His detention hearing is scheduled for December 20.

The deceased, Alexandria Surgent, previously resided on the 400 block of Central Avenue.
