A 17-year-old girl was fatally stabbed in the Galleria shopping mall area of Houston, Texas on Saturday morning, December 9. The incident occurred around 11:14 am on West Alabama Street near Sage Street, a bustling area known for its shopping and business centers.
The victim, identified as Kayla Stevenson, was discovered on the sidewalk with multiple stab wounds to her upper body. According to reports, Stevenson was walking to work at the time of the attack. She was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
Stevenson, who was working two jobs at The Galleria and pursuing a GED, leaves behind a six-month-old daughter.
Witnesses reported seeing two women fighting, possibly over a purse, prior to the stabbing. The suspect reportedly fled the scene on a blue bicycle, which was later found nearby.
Efforts to backtrack the origin of the bicycle and to gather surveillance footage, and information from witnesses led to the arrest of Kaysone Sky Blossom, 37. HPD SWAT team officers arrested Blossom without incident at her residence in the 10200 block of Beechnut Street. She was charged with capital murder in the 230th State District Court.
Kayla’s mother, Kylie Stevenson, said the suspect took Kayla’s Juicy Couture bag, and phone, and even used her bank card before she was apprehended.
The Galleria area has heightened security measures during the holiday season. The HPD has assured the public that there is no immediate threat and has increased patrols in the area. However, they advise residents and visitors to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, especially during busy periods.
The Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division is actively investigating the case.
