A 38-year-old Aldi supermarket employee, Aysel I., was tragically shot and killed by her former boyfriend, 48-year-old Plamen P., on January 15, 2024, in Mörfelden-Walldorf, south of Frankfurt, Germany.
Aysel, a Bulgarian of Turkish descent, had resided in Germany for over a decade. Her relationship with Plamen, which only lasted five months, ended during a vacation in their native country, Bulgaria, half a year ago.
The termination of their relationship marked the beginning of a distressing phase for Aysel, who became the victim of Plamen’s incessant stalking.
Desperate for protection, Aysel reported him to the police several times, retained a lawyer, and successfully secured a restraining order against him.
Aysel’s fear for her life was clear. She had confided to others that she believed her life was in danger, saying, “One day, I’ll go to work and won’t come home. He will come and kill me.”
Her worst fears materialized on January 15 when, around 7:15 p.m., Plamen entered the Aldi store where she was working.
A dispute broke out, and Plamen swiftly produced a semi-automatic gun, firing numerous shots at Aysel and hitting her in the head. He subsequently turned the weapon on himself, ending his own life.
The horrific incident unfolded in front of many stunned shoppers and employees. Aysel had been employed at Aldi for a year.
Plamen was expected to appear in court on February 15 for a hearing concerning an alleged assault on Aysel.
The investigation into this tragic shooting is ongoing. Authorities are focused on understanding the sequence of events leading up to the incident and determining how Plamen managed to obtain the firearm used in the assault.
