Angus Mitchell, son of renowned hairstylist Paul Mitchell, has passed away at the age of 53.
His death was confirmed after reports surfaced of his body being discovered in the swimming pool of his Honolulu, Hawaii residence.
Authorities responded to a call on the morning of January 3, 2024, with initial reports pointing to drowning as the possible cause of death. The official cause is yet to be determined.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Angus Mitchell was a prominent figure in the hairstyling industry. He co-owned John Paul Mitchell Systems, a company his father started in 1980.
After his father’s demise from pancreatic cancer in 1989, at the age of 53, Angus took over his father’s stake in the company and related schools. His hairdressing career was heavily influenced by his father, and he often credited his father for his professional knowledge.
Before making his mark in Beverly Hills, California, Angus spent several years honing his skills in Hawaii.
In 2010, he launched the Angus Mitchell Salon in Beverly Hills. More than just a hairstylist, Angus was an educator, model, and spokesperson for MITCH, a men’s line under the JPMS brand.
Angus was devoted to both his family and his profession. He was thrice married; first to Michelle Raab, then to Sian, with whom he has an eight-year-old son named Dylan, and lastly to Mara, his current wife.
The night before his tragic death, Angus spent time with friends at his residence, enjoying Hawaiian music, as seen in a video shared on Instagram.
Angus Mitchell’s significant contributions to the beauty industry and humanitarian efforts have been recognized with various awards, including the #1 Platform Artist by Be magazine and honors from the Alternative Hair Show for leukemia research. His death has deeply affected his family, friends, and the hairdressing community, who are mourning the loss of a substantial figure in the industry.
Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding his death, as his family, friends, and fans remember his life and legacy.
