On December 28, 2023, Rakesh Kamal, 57, his wife Teena Kamal, 54, and their 18-year-old daughter Ariana Kamal were found deceased in their Dover, Massachusetts home, valued at $6.7 million. The residence is situated at 8 Wilson’s Way, roughly 19 miles away from Boston.
The grim discovery was made by a relative who, after not being able to contact the family for a day or two, decided to check on them. The relative found the bodies around 7:30 pm and promptly alerted the authorities, bringing Dover police and state troopers to the scene.
According to Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey, who is heading the investigation, a firearm was discovered near Rakesh Kamal’s body. While the exact causes and circumstances of death are yet to be determined by the medical examiner, initial findings point towards domestic violence. At this point in the investigation, there has been no indication of involvement by an outside party.
Ariana Kamal, one of the deceased, was attending Middlebury College. The Kamal family lived in Dover, one of Massachusetts’ wealthiest communities. The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office and local law enforcement worked through the night to process the scene of the crime.
DA Morrissey assured the Dover community that there is no ongoing threat following this incident. He further mentioned that there were no previous reports of domestic disturbances at the Kamal residence or within the neighborhood. This tragic event is the first reported homicide in Dover since 2020. The District Attorney’s Office has sought to reassure the public, stating that based on current evidence, this appears to be an isolated incident.
In the aftermath of the incident, authorities have underscored the availability of resources for victims of domestic violence, including the state’s hotline. The community has been reminded of the support structures in place for those dealing with domestic issues.
