Lynne Marta, a well-regarded actress known for her impactful roles in film and television, has passed away at the age of 78.
Marta, who had a successful career spanning more than four decades, succumbed to cancer on January 11 in her residence in Los Angeles, California.
She was born on October 31, 1945, in Somerville, New Jersey. Her acting career started in the 1960s with roles in “The Lloyd Thaxton Show,” “Gidget,” and “The Monkees.”
Marta is particularly remembered for her roles in the films “Joe Kidd” (1972) and “Footloose” (1984), where her performances added depth to her characters and left a lasting impact on film enthusiasts.
In “Joe Kidd,” Marta portrayed a landowner’s associate, engaging audiences with her on-screen chemistry with Robert Duvall and a character played by Clint Eastwood. In “Footloose,” she played Lulu Warnicker, a key character who is the aunt to Kevin Bacon’s character, Ren.
Her television roles were equally commendable. She had a consistent role in “Love, American Style,” and was featured in several shows produced by Aaron Spelling, including “The Mod Squad” and “Charlie’s Angels.”
With a range that spanned crime dramas to comedies and soap operas, including “Passions” and “Days of Our Lives,” Marta showcased her acting versatility throughout her career.
Her personal life, including her relationship with “Starsky & Hutch” actor David Soul, was also a part of her public image. Coincidentally, her death comes just weeks after Soul’s passing.
Marta is survived by her two daughters, her sister MJ, and her cat, Mr. Peaches.
