Two men have been arrested in relation to a deadly shooting at the Hibachi Sushi Supreme Buffet in Brockton, Massachusetts, on Crescent Street.

The incident took place on Friday, January 12, 2024, around 8 p.m., resulting in the death of Joe Araujo, 22.

One of the arrested individuals is an 18-year-old male, who now faces murder charges. The charges against the second individual have not yet been released.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving a call shortly before 7:30 p.m. Witnesses described the suspect to the authorities as a dark-skinned male in a ski mask.

Surveillance footage showed that the shooter entered the restaurant, approached Araujo, discharged his weapon, and then fled.

The Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police quickly initiated an extensive investigation, leading to the arrests on the following Monday night.

Araujo, a father of two young boys and a resident of Brockton, was a graduate of Brockton High School and worked in a retirement community kitchen.

Araujo’s family has been deeply affected by the tragic incident. His mother, Ana Inocencio, and his sisters, Andrea Monteiro and Vera Lopes, expressed their sorrow and the devastating effect of Araujo’s premature death on their family.

Araujo’s sisters remembered him as a loving person who quickly resolved disagreements with expressions of love. Lopes expressed her sorrow over her inability to protect her younger brother in this situation.

The shooting appears to be a targeted attack, according to the authorities, although the motive remains unclear.

The suspects are set to be arraigned at the Brockton District Court. Meanwhile, the police continue their efforts to gather information about the case from potential witnesses or anyone else who might have relevant information.
