A mother of four, aged 30, was killed in a shooting at a McDonald’s restaurant on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
The fatal incident, which occurred around 3 p.m., resulted from an altercation between the victim, identified as Tamanika Woods, and T’Niya Evans, 19 years of age. The dispute escalated, leading to Woods being shot.
Lieutenant Germain Dearlove from the Atlanta Police Department reported that the shooting had its roots in a rapidly escalating disagreement among the patrons of the restaurant.
Details regarding whether the incident unfolded inside or outside the fast-food restaurant remain unconfirmed, though bystanders reportedly detained the suspect until the arrival of police.
Woods was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in a critical state, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Evans is facing charges including murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the act of a felony, and theft by receiving stolen property. She was taken into custody at Fulton County Jail and denied bail during her initial court appearance on Friday, December 29.
A close acquaintance of Woods, who wished to stay unidentified, spoke to the press about the significant impact of Woods’ death. They remembered her as a humble, family-oriented individual, always associated with fond memories and good times. The friend stated that her death has left a profound void among her loved ones.
Woods is survived by her four children, who will now be under the care of other family members.
