A Coweta County, Georgia officer, Deputy Sheriff Eric Minix, 31, lost his life in a high-speed police chase that started in Coweta County and spanned into Chambers County, Alabama. The incident occurred on Interstate 85 during the early hours of Thursday, January 4, 2024.

Deputy Minix, a dedicated member of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, was involved in a multi-agency pursuit of a stolen vehicle. During the apprehension of the suspect, Deputy Minix, while exiting his car, was struck by a police vehicle from the Lanett Police Department, Alabama. The officer responsible for the collision was identified as Cornelius J. Robinson. He has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the investigation into the incident. They are focusing on the circumstances that led to the high-speed chase and the subsequent collision that resulted in Deputy Minix’s death. As of now, the reasons for pursuing the stolen vehicle, driven by Decedric Donson, 25, of Pensacola, Florida, remain unclear.
