Kaneijah Zyir Bradley, 22, was arrested on January 16, 2024, in Halifax County, North Carolina, on suspicion of murdering her 10-year-old sister.

The tragic incident took place in their family residence located on the 2000 block of Beaverdam Road, near Enfield.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to the house at around 10:30 p.m. on January 15, after a mother reported her 10-year-old daughter, Mashiyah Squire, missing.

Upon arriving, deputies discovered that the mother had found her daughter in the backyard, partially encased in a garbage bag inside a dumpster. It was immediately apparent that the child was deceased.

Subsequent investigation unveiled that the young victim had suffered multiple stab wounds. The authorities believe the fatal assault occurred inside the home before the body was relocated to the backyard. Dark spots were noticed in the girl’s bedroom, and two knives, a vacuum cleaner, and disinfectant were confiscated as evidence. Although the Sheriff’s Office initially refrained from revealing the victim’s identity, it was later confirmed that she was Bradley’s younger sibling.

Bradley was swiftly identified as the main suspect and was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. She is currently being held without bond at the Halifax County Detention Center, with her first court appearance slated for January 25.

Commenting on the tragic event, Sheriff Tyree Davis stated, “This is such a sad incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

The grim incident has sent shockwaves throughout the local community. Neighbor Bernard Day expressed his shock, stating, “We’ve never heard of anything like this in our neighborhood.”

This incident is not Bradley’s first brush with the law. In April 2023, she was charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury and larceny of a motor vehicle.

In August 2023, Bradley faced charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon against a government official and a misdemeanor charge of resisting a public officer, indicating a history of violent behavior.

The motive behind the alleged murder remains unknown, and the investigation by the sheriff’s office continues. Authorities are seeking further information that could shed light on this case.
