Kirsten Beagley, an 18-year-old high school senior, tragically lost her life in a tubing accident in Huntington Canyon, Utah, on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
The incident occurred when Beagley and a friend were tubing down a sledding hill at the Cleveland Reservoir in Huntington Canyon. Their tube hit a bump, launching Beagley onto an asphalt surface alongside State Route 31.
The Emery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed her death at the scene, the cause of which is suspected to be a head or neck injury.
The tube carried Beagley and another girl who managed to roll off the tube before the fatal event.
Emery County Sheriff Tyson Huntington stated that the girls were not responsible for the accident. He described the incident as an unusual accident that happened because the tube was moving too fast and strayed over the snowbank onto the asphalt.
Beagley, a resident of Castle Dale, Utah, was a student at Emery High School. She was on a four-couple date, celebrating the school’s winter formal when the accident took place.
Her memory was honored by her classmates and friends at Emery High School, who wore pink, referred to as “Kirsten’s Kolor,” on Monday, January 22.
Jannika Beagley, Kirsten’s sister, remembered her as a joyful person who had a love for dance and was always up for an adventure.
Her parents, echoing this sentiment, spoke of their deep sorrow. Her father, Kyle Beagley, termed the experience as “heart-wrenching,” emphasizing the unpreparedness one faces in such circumstances.
In response to the incident, a family member, Paige Davis, set up a GoFundMe page that has raised more than $19,000 to aid the Beagley family.
Aside from her involvement in school activities, Kirsten was recognized for her role as the captain of the school’s drill team.
