Gonzalez, nicknamed “La Mole” within judo circles, was born on January 2, 1990, in Havana, Cuba. She excelled in judo, mastering it as both a martial art and as a sport at the Olympic level.
She gained international recognition by securing the Pan American Championship title in 2013 and 2014, in the women’s 63 kg category, equivalent to 139 pounds. Gonzalez also achieved a commendable fifth place in the World Championships in 2011, earning her global respect and admiration.
A significant moment in her career was her participation in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Gonzalez overcame Nepal’s Phupu Lhamu Khatri in the preliminary round but was defeated in the next round by Israel’s Yarden Gerbi, a frequent opponent.
