A heated argument in a Taco Bell drive-thru line evolved into a deadly shooting early Sunday morning, February 11, 2024, leaving 24-year-old Adrian Garduno dead. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Prasada Parkway and Waddell Road in Surprise, Arizona.

According to the Surprise Police Department (SPD), the confrontation began as an argument between individuals in two separate vehicles in the drive-thru lane. Garduno, who was in one of the vehicles, stepped out and brandished a firearm, pointing it at the occupants of the other vehicle. In response, an adult male from the second vehicle drew his own gun and fired multiple shots at Garduno, striking him several times.

Officers arriving at the scene discovered Garduno with gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the location. The shooter remained at the scene, cooperating with law enforcement officials. After questioning, he was released without charges pending further investigation.

The SPD has submitted the case to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for examination. No additional injuries were reported from the incident, and there are no outstanding suspects, as per the current status of the investigation. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the identities of the other individuals involved in the incident or about what may have initiated the argument.

This confrontation serves as a stark reminder of the potential volatility of public disputes, especially when firearms are involved. The SPD has reiterated the importance of de-escalating conflicts and advised the community to seek law enforcement assistance.

The area surrounding the Taco Bell was cordoned off as a crime scene, and detectives have been processing evidence and conducting interviews to determine the specifics of the altercation.

The fast-food chain where the shooting occurred has not released a statement regarding the incident. The local Taco Bell was closed following the event, and there has been no indication of an ongoing threat to the public in the area.
