A woman from Douglas County, Georgia, aged 35, is facing felony murder charges related to the death of her three-year-old daughter.
According to authorities, Uriha Ridge, allegedly under the influence of marijuana and cocaine, ventured into the woods near Foxhall Resort with her two children, three-year-old Alina and seven-year-old Elijah, in freezing weather conditions. This incident occurred around midnight on January 16, 2024.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call from Ridge shortly before midday, which led to the discovery of the mother and her children by law enforcement and resort staff.
The children were discovered in scant clothing and wet from rain exposure, having survived the rain and freezing temperatures overnight.
Although Ridge insisted that she had lost her way in the woods, the investigation revealed that she had a fully charged and operational cell phone at the time of their rescue.
Alina’s subsequent death in a local hospital is attributed to prolonged exposure to harsh weather conditions. The medical status of Elijah, who was treated for related issues, has not been disclosed.
Court documents reveal that Ridge has a prior record of child cruelty. In 2022, she was reportedly accused of beating Alina when the child was just two years old, based on warrant details. Reports also indicate that Ridge dropped the toddler while severely intoxicated.
Despite these incidents, Ridge was granted a bond and retained custody of her children. Authorities have now filed a request for the revocation of this bond following Alina’s death.
Ridge has been charged with two counts of first-degree child cruelty, two counts of second-degree child cruelty, and one count of felony murder.
She is currently detained in the Douglas County Jail without bond, awaiting her initial court hearing.
Elijah, Ridge’s son, is currently under the care of other family members.
