Ewen MacIntosh, renowned for his role as “Big Keith” Bishop in the iconic British sitcom “The Office,” has passed away at the age of 50. His passing was announced on February 21 by his representation agency, JustRight Management, which confirmed his peaceful death at Willow Green Care Home. 

Although the cause of his death was not disclosed, it was noted that MacIntosh had been facing health challenges for the last couple of years.

Ricky Gervais, the co-creator and star of “The Office,” paid tribute to MacIntosh, highlighting his unique comedic talent and warm personality. Gervais shared a fond memory of MacIntosh in character, emphasizing his significant contribution to the show’s success. 

Similarly, Stephen Merchant, who co-wrote “The Office” with Gervais, praised MacIntosh’s improvisational skills, which he said led to more dialogue and scenes being written for his character.

Chelle Just, the owner of Just Right Management, remembered MacIntosh not only as a talented actor but as a kind-hearted person. She revealed that MacIntosh had been dealing with undisclosed health issues, which he had openly discussed in an interview with Vice in 2021, reflecting on the physical challenges of filming certain scenes for “The Office.”

In addition to his memorable role in “The Office,” MacIntosh had a diverse acting career, appearing in other British comedies like “Miranda” and “Little Britain.” His portrayal of Keith Bishop, known for his deadpan delivery and iconic moments, such as his appraisal of Gareth’s work, became a beloved part of British television history.

Friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry, including Ed Scott, CEO of Dodged A Bullet Music, and Miranda Hart, who co-starred with MacIntosh in the sitcom “Miranda,” shared heartfelt tributes. Scott praised MacIntosh’s empathy, kindness, and integrity, while Hart thanked him for the laughter they shared.

MacIntosh’s management confirmed plans for a private cremation followed by a celebratory memorial to honor his life and legacy. His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow actors alike, reflecting the impact of his work on British comedy.

Ewen MacIntosh was born in Wales and pursued higher education at the University of Edinburgh before embarking on his acting career. He extolled the extraordinary care and affection showered on MacIntosh by the skilled medical personnel, particularly the nurses. He warmly mentioned how MacIntosh won their hearts by brightening up their days with his smiles.
