An 18-year-old model and beautician, Kelvi McCray, shockingly lost her life to a murder-suicide inflicted by her former boyfriend, Keisean Shaw, 19, while she was engaged in a FaceTime call with her friends.

According to the West Palm Beach Police Department in Florida, officers responded to a shooting report at a residence in the city on the evening of March 6, 2024.

As per the probable cause affidavit, McCray was found with gunshot wounds to her back, head, and neck. Shaw was discovered in the same residence, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. Both were transported to a local hospital, where McCray succumbed to her injuries. Shaw, initially charged with first-degree murder, passed away the following day, ending any pending legal actions against him.

Three friends of McCray, who were on the FaceTime call at the time of the incident, partially witnessed the tragedy. One of them later identified Shaw as the shooter in a police photo lineup.

In a concerning turn of events, McCray had contacted 911 the day before her death to report Shaw for strangling her, pointing a firearm at her, and temporarily detaining her against her will.

McCray’s attempt to flee the situation in a car resulted in Shaw throwing himself onto the windshield, causing it to break. Online court records indicate that he was facing multiple charges, including false imprisonment, aggravated assault, and battery, in relation to this incident. The police were looking for him at the time of the shooting.

Despite their relationship of approximately a year ending, Shaw continued to reside with McCray as he reportedly had no other place to stay. McCray had permitted him to remain in the home after the breakup, a fatal mistake.

McCray’s uncle, Ricky Aiken, remembers her as an intelligent individual with a zest for life. He praised her entrepreneurial drive, beauty, and intellect, underscoring the enormous loss to her family and community.

The authorities have officially classified the case as a murder-suicide. The investigation revealed a disturbing trend of domestic violence leading up to the fatal event, leaving the community and McCray’s family grappling with the loss of a promising young woman and questioning the circumstances that led to this tragic event.

Known for her work in the beauty and modeling industry, McCray had garnered a sizable social media following where she frequently shared updates about her personal life and career.
