A fatal car crash occurred on Interstate 40 in Fayette County, Tennessee, roughly 40 miles from Memphis, claiming the life of 27-year-old Daniel Palacios III and injuring his 23-year-old wife, Christy Carrillo.
The tragedy unfolded on the afternoon of Monday, March 4, 2024, just one day after the couple’s nuptials. Their Toyota 4Runner veered off the highway, struck a dirt embankment, rolled several times, and subsequently collided with an oncoming semi-truck.
Palacios, a self-employed truck driver, lost his life in the accident. Information from the Tennessee Highway Patrol reveals that he was not using a seatbelt when the accident occurred. Carrillo, on the other hand, was wearing her seatbelt and, despite injuries, survived the crash. She has since been discharged from the hospital. The newlyweds were en route to their honeymoon at the time of the accident.
Daniel Palacios Jr., the grieving father, confirmed his son’s death to the local press. He also stated that Carrillo, despite being physically injured and emotionally distraught, is expected to recover fully since her release from the hospital.
In a poignant Facebook post, Palacios Jr. honored his lost son and expressed appreciation for the outpouring of condolences. He confirmed that his family is managing the tragedy and announced plans for a funeral service on March 16, which will be broadcast online.
Dennis Vann, a witness to the accident, recorded the distressing aftermath and forwarded the footage to a local news outlet. Vann suggested a rear tire blowout as a possible trigger for the rollover. He characterized the crash as causing some of the most extensive vehicular damage he has ever witnessed.
This accident contributes to a recent string of disastrous incidents on I-40 in Tennessee. Just hours after Palacios’ accident, a plane crash occurred on the same highway near John C. Tune Airport in Nashville, Tennessee, killing all five people on board, a couple and their three children.
