Hanbury, renowned for his contributions to the field of psychology and a valued member of the Averett community, had been participating in the Southeastern Psychological Association Conference situated near Universal Studios.
An unattended death at Club Orlando, a private men’s club located near the city center of Orlando, prompted the response of the Orlando Police Department. This is where Hanbury’s body was discovered. The specific cause and location of Hanbury’s death remain undisclosed by the police, who have stated the circumstances surrounding his death do not seem suspicious. The investigation is pending the coroner’s report from the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office.
David’s sibling, JJ Hanbury, shared that his brother was not known to be a “partier.” Concerns arose when David failed to call their mother, whom he typically contacted multiple times daily, and when JJ’s call to him was directed to voice mail. Additionally, David’s absence from a planned conference speech caused worry among his colleagues.
In a statement issued by Averett University President Tiffany Franks, Hanbury’s death was announced. Hanbury, who joined the university faculty in 2015, had made a significant impact in his roles as co-chair of the psychology department and chair of the Division of Physical and Psychological Health Sciences.
