A British couple tragically lost their lives in what appears to be a drowning incident while on holiday on the Grenadine Island of Carriacou in the Caribbean. The event unfolded on Saturday, March 9.
David John Foster, aged 76, and his 77-year-old wife Rosaline, were spending their vacation at Paradise Beach on Carriacou, a part of Grenada, when the unfortunate event took place.
The Royal Grenada Police Force’s investigation points to the couple’s possible drowning at Paradise Beach, located near the L’Esterre village.
David Foster was found lifeless on the beach, where local authorities declared him dead on the spot. Rosaline Foster was immediately rushed to the Princess Royal Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The investigation by Grenadian authorities is still underway, with a post-mortem examination expected to establish the precise causes of death. Initial evaluations suggest that Mr. Foster suffered a heart attack, and Mrs. Foster’s attempt to assist him may have resulted in her drowning, according to Cpl. Ardell Lewis of the Royal Grenada Police Force.
The deceased couple, both retired, were reportedly in Grenada with family. The Royal Grenada Police Force has pledged to conduct a comprehensive investigation to uncover the events leading to the Fosters’ deaths.
The UK Foreign Office has stated that it is offering assistance to the family of the deceased and collaborating with Grenadian authorities following the incident.
Paradise Beach, where the incident occurred, is famous for its breathtaking beauty and was named the best Caribbean beach in 2022 for its clear and turquoise waters. Carriacou, renowned for its cultural heritage and natural beauty, is a sought-after destination for tranquility and scenic views.
The Fosters’ death coincides with disturbing news about an American couple in Grenada, who are feared dead after their yacht was reportedly seized by three escaped convicts.
Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel, passionate sailors, mysteriously vanished while on their way to a restaurant, on the same day the convicts escaped custody.
Ron Mitchell (30), Trevon Robertson (19), and Abita Stanislaus (25) sought refuge on a different island, operating the stolen yacht of the couple.
While the authorities have classified the couple’s deaths as murder, no physical evidence in the form of bodies has been found to date. They were last seen on February 18, 2024.
The escapees were recaptured on February 21, the same day the yacht was found. During that time, law enforcement hinted at ongoing investigations suggesting that the yacht’s owners could have been killed during the incident.
On February 22, law enforcement officials stated that the three inmates who had escaped a Grenadian prison on February 18 had sailed to St. Vincent on a yacht docked in the St. George region of Grenada.
Commissioner Don McKenzie from the Royal Grenada Police Force revealed in a press conference on February 26 that there’s evidence indicating that the fugitives disposed of the yacht’s owners, Hendry and Brandel, while sailing between Grenada and St. Vincent.
