Thomas Kingston, an esteemed British financier, and spouse of Lady Gabriella Windsor, was found dead on February 25, 2024, in Gloucestershire, England.
At the age of 45, Kingston held a prominent position in the finance sector and had significant ties to the British Royal Family through his marriage to Lady Gabriella, the daughter of Prince Michael of Kent, a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth. Prior to his marriage, Kingston was also a close friend to Pippa Middleton, sister to Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, reflecting his place within Britain’s elite circles.
Emergency services were summoned to Kingston’s parent’s home in the Cotswolds on February 25, just after 6 p.m. The initial details shared at the Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court indicate that Kingston died due to severe head trauma, and a firearm was found near his body within an outbuilding at the residence of his parents, Martin and Jill Kingston.
Senior coroner Katy Skerrett detailed the sequence of events leading to Kingston’s death. “Mr. Kingston had chosen to visit his parent’s home in the Cotswolds. He spent the afternoon of February 25, 2024, sharing a meal with his parents. After lunch, his father left to walk the dogs. Upon his father’s return, it was apparent that Mr. Kingston was not in the house. After waiting approximately 30 minutes, his mother began a search. His father finally forced entry into a locked building, having received no answer to his calls. Inside, he tragically found his son lifeless, with a severe head injury.”
The news of Mr. Kingston’s death was released by Buckingham Palace on the evening of Tuesday, February 27, confirming that he had been found deceased in Gloucestershire the previous Sunday, February 25.
Kingston had a notable career in finance, serving as a director at Devonport Capital where he specialized in financing businesses in emerging markets. His previous positions at Schroders Asset Management and Voltan Capital Management in London attest to his success in the field. Kingston held a bachelor’s degree in economic history from the University of Bristol and was a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Beyond his finance profession, Kingston worked on a conflict resolution project in Iraq in 2003 with the Foreign Office. His role involved aiding in the liberation of hostages in Baghdad, exemplifying his dedication to international diplomacy and peacekeeping efforts.
Kingston married Lady Gabriella Windsor at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 18, 2019, a ceremony attended by many members of the royal family. The engagement of Kingston and Lady Gabriella was announced in September 2018, following a romantic proposal on Sark, one of the Channel Islands.
The Kingston family released a statement describing Thomas Kingston as an “extraordinary man who touched the lives of all who knew him,” and requested privacy during this difficult time.
A palace spokesperson stated on Tuesday that the King and Queen joined in the mourning with Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and everyone who knew him. They extended their deepest condolences and prayers to Gabriella and the Kingston family.
Thomas Kingston’s substantial contributions to the finance sector and his efforts in international conflict resolution form his enduring legacy. As the Kingston and Windsor families grieve his loss, his professional accomplishments and the memories of his character will continue to be cherished.
