On Saturday, March 30, 2024, Angie Harmon, the 51-year-old actress well known for her roles in “Rizzoli & Isles” and “Law & Order,” reported that an Instacart delivery driver shot and killed her dog, Oliver, a mix between a German Shepherd and Beagle.
According to Harmon, the Charlotte, North Carolina delivery man exited his vehicle, completed the delivery of groceries at her home, and then proceeded to shoot her dog. Harmon noted that her home’s Ring camera, which could have recorded the event, was charging inside the house at the time. The absence of surveillance footage has complicated the case. Harmon expressed her grief and disbelief on Instagram, stating that the driver saw the unmonitored front area and knew his actions were not being recorded. Â
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed they responded to the incident on Saturday, shortly before noon. During their investigation, the police discovered that the delivery driver had arrived at the residence to deliver an order. According to the driver’s statement to the police, he was attacked by a dog at the property, prompting him to defend himself by shooting the animal once, resulting in its fatal injury. The police noted that another dog was on the premises but did not participate in the attack. The incident also prompted a response from the CMPD’s Animal Care and Control unit.
Despite the driver’s claims of self-defense, Harmon contested the story, pointing out that the driver exhibited no physical signs of an attack, such as scratches, bites, or torn clothing. She added that the driver was using a female’s Instacart account, an aspect of the incident that has yet to be addressed in official statements.
A statement from an Instacart official expressed the company’s shock and dismay following the incident. Highlighting the firm’s zero-tolerance stance on violence, they confirmed that the shopper’s account implicated in the incident had been swiftly deactivated. Furthermore, Instacart has made efforts to communicate directly with the affected customer and is working alongside law enforcement agencies to assist in their ongoing investigation.Â
No criminal charges have been filed against the unnamed driver, and CMPD indicates no further inquiries for other parties involved.
Harmon’s social media posts reflect the profound impact of the loss on her family. She detailed the assailant’s lack of remorse, including that he was using someone else’s Instacart account, quoting him saying, “Yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah I did,” in front of her and her daughters, leaving them devastated and traumatized.
“To the man who took Ollie from us: your actions are despicable and inexcusable,” Harmon said in a post.
“You’ve not only robbed us of a beloved member of our family, but you’ve traumatized us beyond measure.” She memorialized Oliver with photos and videos, illustrating his joy in their lives. Harmon’s daughter, Avery Sehorn, 18, whom she shares with her ex-husband, former NFL star Jason Sehorn, also expressed her grief on Instagram, emphasizing the shocking and violent nature of Oliver’s death.
