FireHouse, a prominent rock band, announced the death of C.J. Snare, a founding member and the group’s dynamic frontman, at the age of 64. The band shared the news of their “rock and roll warrior’s” passing on their official Facebook page on Friday, April 5, 2024.
The band FireHouse emerged during the glam metal period, which marked much of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Established in the mid-80s, the band consisted of co-founder Snare, drummer Michael Foster, bassist Perry Richardson, and guitarist Bill Leverty. They gained fame with their self-titled debut album in 1990, which achieved double platinum status in the United States, propelling them into the mainstream. Their successful run was further amplified by hit singles such as “Don’t Treat Me Bad,” “Love of a Lifetime,” and “When I Look Into Your Eyes,” featuring Snare’s unique vocals.
FireHouse managed to maintain a dedicated global fan base, especially in Asia, despite the music industry’s shift from glam metal to grunge in the 1990s. They continued to tour and headline hard rock festivals. Their adaptability was displayed in their 2011 album “Full Circle,” which included re-recordings of their classic hits, reflecting the band’s continued appeal.
Snare served not only as a vocalist but also played the keyboards on seven of FireHouse’s albums. His musical versatility was crucial to the band’s distinctive sound, a successful fusion of hard rock and power ballads.
Snare’s health challenges came to light in September 2023 when he disclosed his temporary departure from the band due to abdominal surgery. His recovery journey and his positive outlook towards returning to the stage were shared with fans through social media updates. In March, he expressed his desire to resume performing.
Unfortunately, Snare’s health struggle was more serious than many realized. It was later revealed by his daughter that he had been battling Stage IV colon cancer since September 2020, a fight that ultimately resulted in his death due to cardiac arrest. This disclosure underscored Snare’s tenacity and commitment to his music, as he continued to perform and engage with fans despite his diagnosis and the difficulties presented by his treatment.
Firehouse paid a heartfelt tribute to their departed friend and bandmate, extending their condolences to “the Snare family, Katherine Little, friends, and all our cherished fans globally.” The band wrote, “Reach for the Sky, CJ! Family, friends, fans, and your fellow band members will eternally miss you. Now, you’re performing with the angels.”
Snare is survived by his three children. The Snare family, the band, and fans worldwide are grieving the loss of this musical icon.
